Recreational Diving Courses

PADI Open Water, Get your PADI.. $650

The PADI Open Water Course is the place to start your underwater adventures. Upon certification you will be certified to dive unsupervised to a recommended maximum depth of 18 meter.

Pre-requisites:
1. Able to swim; medically fit for diving
2. Total time commitment: 4-5 days
3. Minimum age: 12 years or older
4. Depth: expect shallow dives (12m/40ft), the maximum allowed depth is 18m/60ft

The course is comprised of three phases:
1. Knowledge development. This is typically done using PADI online e-learning followed by a review with an instructor. We can provide classroom study if you prefer.
2. Confined (Pool) training. During this phase of the course, you will breathe underwater for the first time and be introduced to all the underwater skills that you need to safely dive in the Ocean.
3. Open Water Dives. As mentioned above, the minimum standard is four dives however, we seek to ensure you are absolutely confident a the end of your course so we facilitate six dives, including two boat dives.

Day two – two shore dives
Day Three – two Shore dives
Day four – two Ocean dives

Open Water Diver

Open the door to Tasmania’s kelp forests, reefs and remarkable temperate marine life.

Begin your underwater journey with the skills and knowledge to dive safely with a buddy in conditions similar to those experienced during training. The course combines dive theory, confined-water practice and open-water dives, with a strong focus on equipment use, buoyancy, dive-computer awareness, problem solving and responsible diving. more details....

PADI Advanced Open Water Course $550

The Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about advancing your skills. You'll practice navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving as a core part of the course and make three specialty dives of your choosing. For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADI specialty certifications.
A few of the popular options include Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish Identification, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Digital Underwater Imaging, Search & Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Boat, Dry Suit, and Wreck Diver.

Pre-requisites:
You must have completed you PADI Open Water Course, or equivalent from another recognised agency.

Format:
Knowledge development – PADI e-learning at your our pace
Day one – Underwater navigation dive, Elective Dive, Night Dive.
Day two – Deep Dive, Elective Dive.

Advanced Open
Water Diver

Turn Tasmania’s varied coastline into your underwater adventure playground.

Build experience through five instructor-led adventure dives, including deep diving and underwater navigation, plus three specialties selected to suit your interests and Tasmania’s conditions. This program broadens your skills and confidence while giving you a practical introduction to further specialty training. more details....

PADI Rescue Diver Course $395

The Rescue diver course prepares you to respond if things don’t go as planned and the unexpected happens. Many divers say this is the most valuable course you can do. It is also the prerequisite for enrolling in a Divemaster Course should you be interested in becoming a PADI Professional working in the diving industry.

By planning, practicing, and leading you will gain the skills required to respond diving emergencies including the following:

  • Self rescue
  • Assisting a tired diver
    Rescuing a panicking, irrational diver.
  • Responding from the shore, boat or dock.
  • Search and locate a missing diver using search patterns
  • Bringing an unresponsive diver to the surface from depth
  • Managing an unresponsive on the surface
  • Existing the unresponsive diver from the water
  • Providing first aid for pressure related injuries and providing oxygen

Pre-requisites:
You must have completed you PADI Advanced Open Water Course or, Adventure Diver including navigation, or equivalent from another recognised agency.
Current First Aid and CPR (may be combined with the rescue course).

Format:
Self-study knowledge development.
Day 1 Knowledge review and pool sessions.
Day 2 Ocean exercises

Rescue Diver

Become the calm, capable buddy every diver wants beside them.

Learn to prevent problems and respond effectively when a diver needs help. Through realistic scenarios, you will develop self-rescue awareness, assist tired or distressed divers, manage missing-diver searches and bring an unresponsive diver to safety, while strengthening your judgement, teamwork and emergency planning more details....

PADI Deep Diver

This course teaches you to dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters using air within no decompression limits. It develops basic knowledge in nitrogen narcosis and decompression theory. More importantly however it teaches comprehensive dive planning and emergency response.

Diving to depths such as 40mtrs requires greater skills. Specifically, navigation, gas management and buoyancy control.

This course one way you can meet the pre-requisites to advancing to the technical courses with Scuba Diving Tasmania.

Deep Diver

Reach Tasmania’s deeper reefs and wrecks with greater confidence and control.

Develop the planning, equipment and in-water skills required for recreational dives beyond 18 metres, progressing within course limits to a maximum of 40 metres. Training covers gas management, narcosis awareness, buoyancy, ascent procedures, emergency planning and the disciplined use of a dive computer at depth. more details....

PADI Dry Suit Diver $300

Dry suits are a game changer for anyone regularly diving in Tasmania and although a quality 7mm two piece wetsuit will keep you warm on most dives you will really appreciate being dry and warm during the surface interval and on those repetitive dives.

Tasmania is a cooler climate and many people dive in dry suits all year round. Some of Tassie’s best visibility is in the winter months when the ocean temperature drops. This is when we get to experience that magic 30mtrs plus visibility!

During the course you will learn:

  • What sort of dry suit is best for you
  • Selection of undergarments
  • How to care for your dry suit (they are a significant investment)
  • Safety considerations and response
  • Buoyancy control

You will complete two dives wearing your dry suit.

Drysuit Diver

Stay warm, comfortable and ready to dive Tasmania throughout the year.

Stay warmer and more comfortable in Tasmania’s cooler waters while learning to use a drysuit safely. You will cover suit selection, thermal protection, weighting, buoyancy control, valves, care and maintenance, along with practical responses to common drysuit problems such as excess gas and an inverted position. more details....

Computer Nitrox Diver

Make more of Tasmania’s dive days with smarter gas and computer planning.

Enjoy the benefits of enriched air while planning and monitoring dives with a nitrox-capable computer. The course explains oxygen exposure, maximum operating depth, cylinder identification and gas analysis, then teaches you to set and verify your computer correctly for the mixture you will actually breathe. more details....
